Types Of Diseases Of The Heart

Being a very important organ of our body, our heart is vulnerable to many problems and knowing different types of diseases of the heart is important to prevent any harm that can happen to it. Heart diseases are a generalized term used to refer to all types of diseases of the heart. Inadequate pumping of oxygen and blood from heart to various parts of our body is considered as the cause for various heart disorders. Different types of diseases of the heart are discussed here.

CORONARY HEART DISEASES

This is a type of heart diseases that occur due the block in the coronary blood vessels, due to the plaque, deposits and thus leading to the inadequate supply of oxygen and blood to our heart. Coronary heart disease is also known as coronary artery disease.

CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE

Congestive heart failure is a condition when the heart fails to pump enough blood to the rest of our body and is an eventual result of various other conditions in our body.

CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE

This is one among the types of diseases of the heart where the heart is formed in an abnormal manner due to any defect in the heart structure or it’s functioning and is also called as congenital heart defect. This defect found commonly in newborn babies.

ANGINA PECTORIS

This is the term used to refer to the types of diseases of the heart where the patient suffer chest pain due to inadequate supply of oxygen and blood to the heart and is usually a warning for a possible heart attack. Angina pectoris can occur frequently with intervals of different length.

CARDIOMYOPATHY

The weakening of heart muscles due to inadequate pumping of heart or due to changes in the structure muscles is termed as cardiomyopathy. These types of diseases of the heart arise due to several reasons such as alcohol consumption, hypertension, genetic defects and viral infection.

CARDIOMEGALY

This is types of diseases of the heart where your heart gets enlarged due to high blood pressure and often due to various other reasons also.

RHEUMATIC HEART DISEASE

Rheumatic heart disease is a disease, which damages your heart valves and is caused by streptococcal bacteria, which cause rheumatic fever.

ATHEROSCLEROSIS

This is a condition where the walls of your artery becomes stiff and thick due to fatty deposits and this is a type of heart disease that can lead to heart failure due to interrupted blood flow and the resulting high pressure.

PERICARDITIS

Pericarditis is a type of heart disease that affects the pericardium, which is a covering sac for your heart, and is caused mainly by infections. The symptoms of pericarditis are severe and sharp chest pain in the center of your chest.

ARRHYTHMIA

This is a term used to refer to the condition in which your heartbeat becomes irregular and loses its rhythm. This condition should not be confused with irregular heartbeat rate because both are different and need not occur together. This is a type of heart disease where the rhythm of the heart beat gets affected even when the heartbeat rate is maintained.
