In the world of today there are so many kinds of plants and so, similarly, you will come across different types of heather plants that can be grown in certain regions and terrains as well. These types of plants are generally great for sheep and deer which eat these and the former (sheep) are able to produce healthy and nutrient-rich milk which is extracted by human beings and fed to the offspring of sheep. At the same time these plants can also be dangerous. The problem with all types of heather plants is that they are very dry plants and so, they are able to cause fire.
One of the many types of heather plants is the Calluna heather plant that is also known as Scotch Heather plant. There is a lot of variety where the color of these types of heather plants are concerned and these are usually either towards the lighter shades of green or they are more reddish-pink in color as well. Some of these are quite small (up to 2 inches tall) and can be grown in gardens and there are also those that are wild spreading ones and these include tumbling stems and upright growing spreaders.
Then, there are those types of heather plants that are known as Erica which are soft and fluffy to the touch and can be grown in the winters if you want to make your garden look nice. You will also find those types of heather plants, where these are concerned, that have stiff habits and are gentle at the same time. These are available in bright pink and magenta and while some people find these types of heather plants to be too stiff, others love to grow these because of how colorful they are.
Daboecia are also included in the many types of heather plants and these can be grown in the fall and bloom through spring. These types of heather plants can be grown in almost any garden and they really add color to the garden as well. The foliage is green and you can find these flowers in the lavender color. They really add diversity, brightness to the garden and look very beautiful in the sun too. These flowers are bell-shaped and you will see that they are probably the largest of all types of heather plants and last for long (from spring to fall) and make your garden look really interesting and colorful.
The thing about heather plants is that they can be used domestically and they can be used for agricultural purposes. While they look amazing and add interesting splashes of color to the garden, they are also healthy and nutritious for animals like sheep and deer. These types of heather plants are mostly used for decorative purposes at home. Though they burn and can cause a lot of damage when they grow out in the open, they are easy to grow at home, last for longer time periods and make a garden look beautiful.
