The compound sentences are sentences that have two independent clauses. This means that these are sentences that look like two simple sentences that are joined together. They are joined by coordinators such as yet, or, nor, and, for, and many others. The use of commas is seen here as well to separate the two independent clauses from each other. An example of the compound types of sentences and clauses is ‘Juan is studying, so Lucas watched TV.’ You can see that the subjects are the same. The complex sentences are the ones that are composed by an independent clause together with depended clauses or a dependent clause. A dependent clause is a clause that does not express a complete thought and hence it is dependent to the other types of sentences and clauses present beside it. In compound sentences, coordinators are used. Here, subordinators are used. These subordinators include since, because, although, and many more. The use of comma is not required but you can still freely do so. An example of these types of sentences and clauses is ‘Juan is playing football although he forgot his upcoming exams.’ The independent clause there is ‘Juan is playing football. The dependent clause is ‘he forgot his upcoming exams’.
