Types Of Network Media

Network media means such a media through which a network can be maintained. There can various types of network media

through which media an electric signal can be traveled. In fact, the network media is the real path for the transformation of signal.

Here, the types if network media is discussed:

Twisted Pair-cable:

Twisted Pair-cable is the form of cabling which is used in order to building up the telecommunication network and also Ethernet network. In this process, two wires create a circuit which is able to transmit data. These pairs are actually twisted, so that it is able to guard it from crosstalk. Crosstalk is the noise that is generated by the wires. When the electrical signals flow through the wires, a magnetic field gets generated around these. So, when, two wires become too close to each other, the magnetic fields become close too. But, the magnetic are not same. So, the power is canceled by them. Even outside magnetic fields are canceled by them. The cancellation effect can be more effective because of the twisted wires. The network engineers use this twisted cables for to make the network more effective.

There are types of twisted Pair-cable: the first one is unshielded twisted pair (UTP) whereas the second type is shielded twisted pair (STP).

UTP cables:

UTP cable, the medium that is made of two wires This UTP cables are used in different networks. Insulating materials are used for making the wires. Obviously, the wires are twisted. The maximum segment length of UTP is 100m and the speed can be 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps. The cost of this cable is too low. The problem is that it can cover a limited place. But, the biggest advantage is it is very easy to install and used widely.

STP cables:

The maximum length of this cable is 100m. The speed is same to the UTP cables; 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps. But, the problem is that it’s cost is little higher than the UTP cables. But, this cable can also have limited capacity to cover a large area just like the UTP cables. The advantage is that these cables are more resistant than UTP cables to EMI.

Coaxial:

The thicknet can cover 500m and the thinnet can cover almost 185m. But, the speed is same (10Mbps to 1000Mbps). Among the types of network media

the quality of this one is very high. The price is higher than the UTP cables. The problem is that it is little hard to work with bandwidth. Also, a damage of the application can damage the whole network! But, still it is good as it can cover a huge area.

Fiber optic:

This is a great one among the types of network media. In singlemode, it can cover 10 km or more and in multimode, it can cover almost 2 km. The speed is excellent. It is in the range of 100 Mbps to 100 Gbps in singlemode and 100 Mbps to 9.92 Gbps in multimode. Obviously the price is too expensive as it provides better service.

So, these are the network media which can make network connections.
