Types Of Beers
What are the types of beer? Beer is an alcoholic beverage made from four natural products: yeast, malt, hops and water. It has about 5% alcohol, the so-called non-alcoholic types of beers is between 0 and 0.5% alcohol.
Perfect types of beers drinking temperature is between 6 and 8 degrees C.
Beer is the most popular alcoholic drink and however, many times we forget to appreciate their qualities. It comes in different colors, flavorings, and tastes even glasses, demonstrating that it is product of a complex process, a special creation for different occasions. Beer is the oldest alcoholic beverage, the first evidence dating back approximately 4000 years old (in the old Mesopotamia). In Ancient Egypt, the first type of beer was considered a divine drink.
Beer has always been unstable and fragile items, fermenting stands today as a mysterious phenomenon, difficult to control. In 1857 Louis Pasteur discovered fermentation chemistry interested in the existence of micro-organisms in yeast; the investigation that followed has created methods and practices by which the process of alcoholic fermentation has been better managed, and in the process of production resulting a types of beers more healthy, more clearly, a types of beers of superior quality. According to the type fermentation beer shall be divided into three major types of beers:
1 Ale type beer
Beer Ale or high fermentation beer.; fermentation lasts from 3 to 8 days at a temperature between 180 and 250, yeast ‘high’ is Saccharomyces cerevisiae. After the first phase is on the surface tank, yeast deplete glucose (maltose and simple sugars) and begins to descend to the bottom tank. To obtain high-fermentation beers with high concentrations of alcohol (yeast high is not slowed down in the presence of alcohol) and flavorings complex. This type of beers which belong to this type are less loaded with carbon dioxide from the fermentation beers that are low and which are consumed at temperatures between 60 and 120. Examples: beer of the abbey (abbey), Trappist Beer (Trappist), double white beer, beer of the season, special beer, bitter, blades of the, ‘Irish red ale, porter, stout, scotch ale kolsch, etc.
2 Lager type of beer
Lager beer or low fermentation beer
Fermentation lasts from 7 to 10 days at a temperature between 100 and 150; scum ‘high’ is Saccharomyces uvarum. The temperature of the fermentation beer has the advantage that protects against bacteria and fungi. Low fermentation yeast produces less alcohol because it is delayed by the alcohol which they produce. Examples: pills, bok , doppelbock, eisbock rauchbier, schwarzbier, etc.
3 Spontaneous fermentation beers
Contrary high and low fermentation, this type of fermentation does not require the addition of yeast to the wort is exposed to air.
At the present this method is been used in Belgium for the Lambic types of beers which have an acidic taste-acre, this taste is coming from million acids and acetic acids – in a Lambic we find at least 5 groups of wild yeasts. Examples: Lambic and gueuze, FARO, etc.
At the present, each manufacturer respecting tradition produce beer with distinct taste and clear identity for its customers, acquired knowledge, recipes and production methods being secret passed down from generation to generation.
