Types Of Cervical Tumors
All types of cervical tumors essentially refer to a malignant neoplasm that arises from cells in the lower, narrow part of the uterus , right at the point where it meets the top end of the vagina. In most cases, the various types of cervical tumors cause symptoms like unusual vaginal bleeding, as well as pain in the surrounding area, all there are cases where cervical tumors do not exhibit any obvious manifestation.
There are basically two main types of cervical tumors : the squamous cell cancer and adenocarcinoma, which both take their name from the cancerous cells that causes the tumor. The former refers to a kind of flat skin-like cells that are found on the ectocervix (which is the outer surface of the cervix); while the former refers to a kind of gland cells that can be found scattered in the endocervical canal, the endocervical canal being the passageway that runs along the interior of the passageway that connects the cervix to the wound. From the two types of cervical tumors, squamous cell cancer is by far the most common type of cancer, while adenocarcinoma occurs only in one out of fifteen cases.
Both types of cervical tumors are very dangerous and need to be treated as soon as possible. But what can cause a cervical tumor? Among all the common risk factors that apply to all types of cancer in the human body, smoking has been shown to have an especially high correlation with cancer in the cervix. Besides that, however, the two types of cervical tumors can also be caused by the human papillomavirus. The human papillomavirus, also known as hpv, is a DNA virus that is mostly transmitted through sexual contact, which results in an infection of the anogenital region causing warts and other pre-cancerous lesions, which in turn can create cervical tumor if they are not treated properly.
In other words, although both types of cervical tumors are potentially life-threatening, the good thing is that they do not develop aggressively, which essentially means that as long as they are diagnosed early, no serious harm will come to you. The most common signs and symptoms that the two types of cervical cancer exhibit in later stages of their development is vaginal bleeding and contact bleeding. To what is more they can also bring forth a vaginal discharge, as well as a certain amount of pain during sexual intercourse. Unfortunately, cervical cancer is in most cases asymptomatic during its early stages, which is also the stage where it can be treated more effectively. As a result, the best method to deal with cervical cancer is early diagnosis of the problem, and ideally treating the condition before it even becomes cancerous. This means that, besides, taking all necessary precautions during sexual intercourse, you should also be having regular tests. For example, the Papanicolaou test, or test Pap in short form, is a medical test that can identify abnormal and potentially cancerous cells, thus helping you deal with the problem in its early stages.
