Types Of Blood Vessels
Blood vessels are the tubes that allow blood to function and the many types of blood vessels have different kinds of responsibilities to make sure that our blood is able to circulate the best way and the smoothest way possible for our body to function right. This is why it is very significant that you know the many types of blood vessels as you will be able to see how important they are to ensure your health.
There are four main types of blood vessels, the arteries, veins, capillaries, and the sinusoids.
The arteries are the biggest of the types of blood vessels. They are the elastic ones that make sure that blood is transported away from your heart. There are two main types of arteries too, the pulmonary arteries and the systemic arteries. The pulmonary arteries are the types of blood vessels that move the blood from the heart and bring them to the lungs. The systemic arteries, on the other hand, are those that take blood away from the heart and bring it to the rest of the body. The aorta is the largest artery of the body.
The veins are the types of blood vessels that carries the blood from the regions or areas of the body and bring it to the heart. There are four types of veins, pulmonary, superficial, deep veins, and systemic. The pulmonary veins are those that bring the blood that is oxygenated from the lungs to the heart’s left atrium. The superficial veins are those that are near the surface of the skin. The systemic veins are the ones that take the blood that is deoxygenated from the rest of the body and bring it to the heart’s right atrium. Lastly, the deep veins are those that can be found deep in the muscle tissues.
The capillaries are the small types of blood vessels that are seen within tissues. Basically, these are the types of blood vessels that carry blood from the arteries and take them to the veins. Most number of capillaries will be seen in the most active organs of the body. Given that these are very small, the red blood cells that pass them can do so through only a single file. However, through the walls of these types of blood vessels carbon dioxide, oxygen, wastes and nutrients are exchanged.
The sinusoids are the blood vessels that are found in the spleen, liver and bone marrow. They are small and capillary like in structure. The main difference, however, is that they do not overlap. They are known to spread out too. Like the capillaries, the sinusoids also exchange wastes, proteins, nutrients, oxygen, and carbon dioxide through their thin walls.
Now that you know the types of blood vessels, you can now understand how our blood travels from the heart to our entire body. This way, you will be able to understand as well that you should make sure that your blood pressure is always normal to avoid the blocking of any of this to avoid serious health problems.
