Types Of Cells With Cell Walls
All cells do not have cell walls so the types of cells with cell walls are- plant cells, fungi, bacteria and algae cells. Animal cells do not have cell walls. A cell wall is known to be a rigid layer on the surface of some cells which helps to protect cells from the outside environment. Sometimes the layer may be flexibl but mostly it is rigid. Cell walls are situated outside the cell membrane which provides structural support to these cells. When water enters the cells, the cell walls prevents the over expansion of the cells by acting as a pressure vessel.
The various types of cells with cell walls are discussed here-
* Plant cell walls- Plant cell walls help the plant in many ways. Apart from giving proper structure to the plants, these types of cells with cell walls in plant protect the plant cells and tissues. These walls play a primary role in inter-cellular communication and microbe interactions (helps to defend the cells against the pathogens). Generally cell walls in plants are sub-divided into two parts- primary wall and secondary wall. Primary wall forms a layering over the growing cells and protects them. They also support the cells which are capable of growing. On the other hand, secondary walls form a rigid structure around some special cells including vessels elements and fibre cells.
The primary and main component that is found in all plant cell walls is cellulose. When a cell grows, a new wall material is added near the cell membrane and the old wall is removed or pushed back. Hence, it gives way to the growth of a new cell wall in the growing cell. A deep study is needed to know the composition of the cell wall of a plant cell. Its various functions help the plant to grow in structure and size. These walls act as protective tissues from potential pathogens and other organisms.
* Bacteria Cell Wall- Bacteria comes second in line when describing the types of cells with cell walls. Studying cell walls in bacteria is important because they are important for living (many bacteria help human beings and other organisms) and they are made up of unique and important components. Antibiotics attack bacteria directly by recognizing their components. In bacteria too, their cell walls are rigid in structure and it protects them too from mechanical harm or osmotic rupture. Since, the membrane of the cell is a delicate structure; it needs some protection from outside. Thus, the cell wall, made of murein material, protects the membrane by forming a cover around the membrane.
So this was the explanation of the types of cells with cell walls in bacteria.
* Cell wall in Fungi- The cell walls in fungus is characterized as the most dynamic in structure which protects the cells of fungi from getting damaged by changes in the environment and osmotic pressure. Fungus cell wall helps the cell to grow and interact with the environment it lives in.
