Invertebrates are the types of different animals that are known to evolve the first. They are known to have existed in the world way back 600 million years ago. Invertebrates are characterized by not having a back bone. However, with the many different species under these types of different animals there are many other characteristics that can be seen from these. Some of the most common invertebrates include the mollusks, flatworms, insects, sponges, echinoderms and many others.
Fishes are the types of different animals that live in the water. There are some that live in the sea or salt waters and there are other species that live in fresh water. The first fishes are called ostracoderms. These are the fishes that don’t have jaws and existed way back 510 million years ago. At present, there are more than 24,000 species of fish that can be found in the waters of the world. Most of these species are ray finned fishes, 810 are cartilaginous fishes and 8 are lobe finned.
Amphibians are the types of different animals that live both in land and in the water. They have walked the earth for 370 million years and have evolved many times too. Being able to live both in the land and water, amphibians often have slimy skin. At present, there are roughly 6000 species of amphibians that include frogs, salamanders, newts, and toads among others.
Reptiles are the types of different animals that evolved from the amphibians. They have been alive since 340 million years ago. Like their ancestors the amphibians, the reptiles can live both in land and water as well. They are cold blooded too. The main difference between the two is that the reptiles have scales on their body to protect them. Also, they lay amniotic eggs that are of hard shells. At present, there are 8,000 reptile species alive including turtles, snakes, crocodiles and squamates among others.
We are the mammals. Mammals are the types of different animals that are characterized by their mammary glands which female mammals use to nourish their young. There are 5,400 species of mammals today and they vary in many things – there are some that live in water such as the whales and the dolphins, there are some that fly like the bats, there are some that live underground like the rodents, and many more.
