Types Of Memory Skills
There are various types of memory skills and while some people have poor memory skills there are those who have amazing and interesting types of memory skills. In some cases these types of memory skills may exist due to the fact that people have the genetic ability to remember certain information in certain ways but then there are those who may have, what are known as, flashbacks due to the fact that they are exposed to certain traumatic situations and incidents. In other cases, one may just tend to be mentally developed in a certain way because of which they can remember things in a certain way.
Mnemonists have certain types of memory skills that are quite interesting because these allow them to recall not only names but also numbers, anything may have said, what was going on at a certain time, even something they may have written or such like. These types of memory skills are said to be inborn but there are those who argue that one needs to learn to use their minds to remember things this way too. It is said that there are those types of memory skills that are artificial and those that are natural and mnemonists are believed to have artificial memory where they have trained their minds to remember things in a certain way.
One of the most interesting types of memory skills is the eidetic memory which is referred to as photographic memory by the ordinary lay man. These guys can usually remember things very vividly and they can recall everything that may have happened at a time. They may even remember things such as what was lying where, how, the name of a book that may have been lying in the room that they were sitting in and they are usually able to remember everything in great detail.
Hyperthymesia is another of the various types of memory skills which allows the individual to remember autobiographical details precisely. Again, it is presumed that these guys train their brains to remember things in a certain way. They think about their pasts often and so, this way they may be able to recall certain incidents of their pasts vividly. This is not natural, it is artificial, because the individual forces himself to remember his/her past and this then becomes a part of the individual’s memory skill. People who write autobiographies are usually said to have such types of memory skills.
These types of memory skills are either inborn or they may be artificial but some scientists state that it is because of genetics that a person may have certain types of memory skills. Neuroscientists state that these people usually train themselves to think in a certain way and are then able to memorize things in a particular manner but there is no way to tell how accurate either of these theories really is.
These are some of the many types of memory skills that are currently known of and while some of these are common, others are rare.
