Types Of Psoriasis
What are the different types of psoriasis? Have you heard of psoriasis? This is a type of skin disease that is characterized by red and scaly patches. There are many different types of psoriasis. Sometimes, a person can have more than one type at a time. Sometimes, there are symptoms and sometimes there aren’t. Therefore, it is best that you get to know the many different types of psoriasis so you know how to deal with them in case.
The most common types of psoriasis are called plaque psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis is also acknowledged as psoriasis vulgaris. These are the types of psoriasis that are characterized by red and inflamed skin that are covered with white to silver scales. Commonly, the plaque psoriasis can be found somewhere in the elbows, scalp, knees, and the lower back. However, the plaque psoriasis can grow pretty much everywhere in the body. The problem with these types of psoriasis is that they are known to last for years.
Next, we have guttate psoriasis. These types of psoriasis usually start in childhood. These are caused by red spots in the skin and are often seen on the upper arms, trunk, thighs, and scalp. However, these are usually less thick than the lesions found in psoriasis vulgaris. There are many different triggers that can cause these types of psoriasis. Some of the known triggers of this are skin injuries, stress, upper respiratory infections, and even drugs. The best part about the guttate psoriasis is that they can go away without treatment. However, there are some that are just stubborn and would require extensive treatment.
Inverse psoriasis is among the types of psoriasis that are bright red and shiny lesions. They do not have scales, unlike the first two types. Most of the time, the inverse psoriasis can be found in the armpits, groins, under the breasts, and other skin folds such as in the buttocks and genitals. The bad thing about the inverse psoriasis is that they can worsen through sweating as well as from rubbing, given that their common locations are skin folds. Therefore, the people who are having the hardest time dealing with this are the overweight people.
There is also what doctors call pustular psoriasis. These are the types of psoriasis that are very rare and just found in adults. These are characterized by red skin with bumps that are filled with pus. Some people think that these red bumps are infectious, but they aren’t. The most common areas where this psoriasis is found are the hands and the feet. However, they can also be found all over the body. Keep in mind that these are very serious. Among all the different types, these ones are the ones that need medical treatment.
The generalized versions of the pustular psoriasis can cause nausea, fast heart rate, chills, fever, and muscle weakness, among other illnesses. There are many different triggers of this as well. Some of these triggers include pregnancy, infection, stress, UV exposure, chemical exposure, withdrawal to some medications, systemic medications, topical medications, steroids, and many others.
