Types Of Staph Infections
Know about the Types Of Staph Infections. Staph infections are brought about by the bacterium known as Staphylococuss aureus. Many think that the types of staph infections caused by staph are serious or lethal, but such infections vary greatly and antibiotics which are either taken orally or applied to the skin such as topical creams are used in treating the infections. These types of treatments however are only good as far as they go since some staph infections are not treated well especially those caused by the Staphylococuss strains such as the MRSA or otherwise known as ‘Methicillin-resistant Staphylococuss aureus’ that are resistant to treatments. In such cases, it will have to take various antibiotic forms to come up with a version capable of attacking the bacteria thoroughly. Staphylococuss bacteria inhabit the skin as well as the part surrounding the mucus membranes. These bacteria usually cause infections to develop through a cut. Various types of staph infections can lead to ulcerations, abscesses, skin infections, boils or some serious complications. This type of bacteria are transferred through contact with surfaces such as taps, beddings, countertops, doorknobs or persons with staph bacteria or through a scratch or cut in the skin. Poorly-handled types of food can also be a haven for these bacteria which can cause food poisoning. Naturally, some species of these bacteria are present in the ground. Therefore to prevent these bacteria, wounds and hands should be kept clean.
Skin infections are usually associated with the types of staph infections and also considered the most usual. The symptoms for every skin infection are different but most infections have the same symptoms at the outset. They may appear like boils or pimples. They may sometimes appear with pus or some drainage, red, swollen, painful, some feeling of warmness or even fever sometimes.
Below are some of the types of staph infections:
Boil – This is one of the types of staph infections that is referred to as lump usually under the skin and becomes infected by the bacteria, filled with pus, then opens up after sometime.
Impetigo-This is one of the types of staph infections that starts from a cut. The staph bacteria usually attack cuts if not treated well. When the cut becomes infected by the bacteria, impetigo starts to develop. This infection type is serious and highly contagious. The face is the usual place where this type of infection develops. The infection appears like sores that are itchy. More often than not the sores are filled with some fluids or pus.
Cellulitis- This is one of the types of staph infections that is considered very serious. The legs are often the spot of the infection caused by the staph bacteria. With this type of bacterial infection, the skin on the legs area appears red, when touched the infected area feels tender, and not only that but also feels hot. The infection gradually burrows deeply into the tissues and into the bloodstream.
Scalded Skin Syndrome- Can be serious, this type affects newborn infants. The skin gets affected with blisters then peels off. The raw skin then becomes susceptible to the infection.
